Thread Veins are small dialated blood vessels, that appear most commonly on the legs and face. Small thread veins are red and larger ones purple or blue. They are also known as spider veins, broken veins or capillary veins. These veins often accompany Rosacea (red blush) a skin condition assosiated with overuse of steroid creams.

What causes thread veins?

Common factors include sun exposure, hormone treatment, age and genetics.

Is it for me?

Although they are not harmful the appearance of thread veins can often affect the confidence of an individual and laser treatment can help to restore that confidence.

How does it feel?

You may experience some mild discomfort during the treatment but most clients are pleasantly suprised. Generally veins will lighten or darken before disappearing and there may be some inflammation around the area for upto 24 hours following the treatment.

How does it work?

The laser energy safely passes through the skin to the blood vessels which asorb the energy. This causes the vessels to coagulate (cook) to a point of collapse. The bodies natural waste process breaks down the collapsed vessel, leaving the skin clear and smooth.

How many sessions will I need?

We recommend you budget for 3-4 treatments, however sometimes just one treatment is necessary. If you have varicose veins we recommend you see your GP for advice. Thread veins are likely to recoccur in those that have varicose veins.

How long does it take?

This is dependant on the area treated but a single thread vein can be treated in under a minute.

What other options are available to me?

Microsclerotherapy is a technique of injecting Thread or Spider Veins with a substance through a very small needle. Using a large magnifying light, a chemical called a "sclerosant" is injected into the veins - this causes inflammation in the vein wall and, if the vein is small enough, the inflammation will destroy the vein over several weeks, making it much less noticeable, or even invisible.
